The strength comes from the fact that the Clinic PTFE Floss is made from a very strong monofilament fibre which prevents shredding and snapping. This floss, while string, is still gentle enough to clean below the gum line without causing any irritation to already damaged gum tissue.
To help the floss slide smoothly in and out of these tighter gaps, it has been coated with the substance PTFE, which stands for polytetrafluoroethylene. You might know this better as the non-stick coating Teflon. Teflon works well on dental flosses as it not only makes for a smooth surface to slide between teeth, but it is still easy to grip at either end and doesn’t leave the unpleasant build-up on teeth that you sometimes get with waxed flosses.
